Host A Gig

Are you a music enthusiast looking to dive into the vibrant music scene of Hawai’i? If you have a passion for hosting intimate concerts in your home (or on your property - event venues, gardens, galleries, recreation, centers, etc. are also welcome) and creating a warm, welcoming space for musicians and fellow music lovers, we want to hear from you!

Share details about your space, location, and capacity with us here. And if you already have an artist or a band in mind that has agreed to perform, even better. Or you can browse the Find Your Groove website and choose an artist you would like to perform at your home or another chosen space. Let us know what you love about music and the idea of our platform, "Find Your Groove." Help us build a community that celebrates the art of "talking story" through music and shared experiences.

Think about the acoustics of your space and whether you’ll need any amplification for the musical performance, as well as what types of seating arrangements make the most sense. If your venue is outdoors, make sure that you have a way to protect the equipment from the elements. Make sure to consider how long artists will need for setup and breakdown, and whether they need access to power, a loading dock, or any other special access.

Determine what equipment you’ll need for the performance and whether the venue can provide any of it. This could include a stage, speakers, microphones, sound system, lighting, and other audio/visual equipment. We will also check with your musical talent to determine what equipment they will be bringing themselves.

Decide on the optimal date and time for your event depending on your audience and your event concept. Some themes and concerts work better in an evening setting, where you can use lighting and backdrops to set the mood and tone. Other concepts and venues, especially outdoor ones, will be logistically easier to manage in the day. Keep in mind that your audience has times that will work best for them as well. Take into account things like school, work, and holiday schedules to determine what day and time is best for your concert.

Promote the event - in addition to promotion through EventBrite and Find Your Groove, it’s always helpful to promote the concert yourself in your network, on social media, etc. Invite all (or some) of your social circle - I’m talking 10 of your closest friends or 70 people from your local community. Think about reaching out to work colleagues or neighbours that you’ve never spoken to before - who knows, you might make some new friends in the process.

The best live music events have a concept or theme driving the narrative. This concept shapes everything from the type of music performed to the audience, venue and style of event decor.

Consider the attendees for your event and what concept and style will be most appealing and memorable to them.

Think about providing some drinks and nibbles to kick off the pre-gig mingling as yummy additions to a party - stuck for ideas? Check out previous gigs for inspiration.

Don’t stress - when the day (or evening or night) arrives just eat, drink, boogie, mingle and enjoy the experience that you’ve created.

Day of the Concert:

  • Set up the venue: Ensure the space is ready, the sound system is working, and the seating is arranged.

  • Welcome guests: Provide a warm and inviting atmosphere for attendees.

  • Manage the performance: Ensure the artist has what they need and the show runs smoothly.

  • Collect donations (if applicable): If it's a house concert, clearly communicate the donation process.

  • Thank the artist and guests: Express gratitude for their participation and support. And to add a touch of magic to our gatherings, tell us the names of some current artists in Hawai’i that you would love to see perform at a house concert. Your input will shape the soulful sounds that echo through the walls of "Find Your Groove," creating unforgettable moments for all who join us.

Come be a part of our musical journey and let's create something truly special together. Together, let's make music mean more than just melodies - let's make it about connection, community, and the shared love for the art. Join “Find Your Groove" today and let the music move you like never before.
